Yangzee River Cruises

Is it worth three days of ones time to go on one of these cruises?? Do you actually see amazing sights, scenery, or experience something worthwhile??

We are trying to decide between the cruise and having three days to take in other site(s)-- like Dazu %26amp; Lhasa

Yangzee River Cruises

3 days to see Dazu and Lhasa?! That sounds totally crazy, don%26#39;t go for that whatever you pick.

On the other hand, the 3 Gorges cruise is a bit of a toss-up between travellers who loved it and travellers who hated it, not much in between it seems to me. The former would mainly be those who splurged to go on the Western boats (and yes, on these there%26#39;re price discrimination based on your passport nationality) and the latter would mainly be those who went on Chinese boats. I myself am going on a Chinese boat 2 days from now and don%26#39;t really relish the choice, but since I%26#39;m on a budget of sorts there%26#39;s nothing much I can do about it.

Generally I%26#39;d advise travellers with 2 weeks or less to spend in China to forget about doing the cruise. Exception made if you%26#39;ve really got your heart set on it and would love the experience no matter how crappy the actual boat conditions are... because chances are that you%26#39;ll be disappointed by the boat if you%26#39;re not going on a Western one. No point wasting time and money otherwise.

Just came back from the cruise a couple of days ago. Would not recommend going on it at all, especially in winter.

We are planning a trip to China in July and my husband really wants to do the Yangtze cruise. What was it you didn%26#39;t like? Was it mainly the boat you were on, or something more? We%26#39;re coming from the US, what did you mean about passport discrimination?

Thanks,

Linda

I%26#39;ve replied to you on email, but just in case anyone else wanted to know...

Definitely both the scenery and the boat conditions. Plus the fact that it%26#39;s really overpriced and not value-for-money.

If you go on a Western boat (4/5-star) then the price that you pay (for the same conditions and etc) will be dependent on the nationality of the passport you%26#39;re holding. Much cheaper for those holding PRC ID cards.

If you want a detailed rundown and candid photos of the room conditions and scenery on offer then let me know by email.

I%26#39;ve heard that this river cruise is highly overrated.

Does anyone else have some feedback?

probit, email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com with ';TripAdvisor probit'; in the subject line if you want my detailed rundown of the trip along with candid photos of the scenery and our on-ship accommodation.
