Hoping someone can help. My sister wants to go to HK next year for 2 weeks and wants to stay at the YMCA. It would be with her husband and 2 kids - 13 year old boy and 8 year old girl. She had assumed that a family suite would fit them all, but the hotel said it was only suitable for 2 adults and one child. Reading other reviews, I can see famailies of 4 haev stayed but typically the kids are pretty young. Does anyone have any views on this? Would the suite be a bit tight for all of them, or should they try to get 2 adjoining rooms? I know her preference is for them all to be together but I also know if the sofa bed is a bit neat then it might be a uncomfortable sleep for the 2 kids which would only lead to arguments.
Hope someone can help. She%26#39;s not planning on going until just after Xmas 2007 so plenty of time yet!
ymca suite for family of 4?
Two rooms would be better for sanity reasons. It isn%26#39;t just the number of people it is also space for the luggage you have to work out. The size of the sofa bed is a small double.Just enough room for the 13 year old. Look up this website and show your sister the picture of the layout for the family suite:

ymca suite for family of 4?
Thanks for answering so quickly. I thought that was the case but figured I would have a better chance at convincing my sister if someone independent agreed with me. I%26#39;m not sure if the 13 year old would even put up with his sister anyway. I%26#39;ll break the news gently!
Thanks again.
For the 13 yearold it would be like a National Lampoon Vacation. Perhaps your sister cannot afford the extra room maybe if they are stuck they could ask for a rollway. Actually my son is 13 and he has his own room these days. The reaon for this is that he goes to bed earlier and awakes earlier and he also likes the independence. So do I. My13 year old would definitley squirm at the idea of being so close to his sister.
Hi, stayed at the YMCA in November 2006 in a 2 room family suite on the 13th floor looking out to Nathan Street, with husband and 2 children 10 and 12 years (both girls). The suite was certainly bigger enough for the 4 of us - kids in one room on a pull out sofa and there was another sofa couch which didn%26#39;t pull out to a bed but your 8 year old could sleep on that!
This is for a 2 week holiday. Everybody even children should be comfortable for that period. I don%26#39;t think that a 8 year old should have to sleep on a couch for so long. That%26#39;s no good for her spine. THis family could look at places which have interconneting rooms.
the YMCA - Salisbury is terrific and have stayed here many times. We stayed in a family suite with 2 boys 4 %26amp; 10 but it is definitely only suitable for a few nights. Recommend 2 rooms particularly as it is so inexpensive - Even a family suite and a single room next door (the doubles are quite small). Lee
Hi everyone, I didn%26#39;t realise there were so many other replies since I last wrote. Thank you all for your comments. I duly told my sister to cough up the extra cash and book 2 rooms. She can well afford it! I suspect she may have wanted to save some money but also her son is diabetic and probably wanted to know she was close at hand in case he had a hypo in the night. However, I%26#39;m sure they can get 2 rooms that are next to each other and the problem will be solved.
I agree 2 weeks on a sofa is not great, and she%26#39;s quite big for her age too. That would be one grumpy little girl!
Our family of 5 stayed at the YMCA-Salisbury in October 2005, in a unit of family suite. The five of us being my husband and myself, and our 3 children then of 14, 11 and 8. My husband and me and our youngest slept in the spacious bedroom with a king bed, while the elder two slept in the living room on the double-size sofa bed and a chargeable extra bed. I can%26#39;t remember the rate for the extra bed but you can look it up on the YMCA website.
I would think the family suite would fit the four of your sister%26#39;s family nicely with an extra bed. However, If she minds the extra bed getting into the way in the living room and sees putting away the sofa bed during the day as a hassle, then it is better that she takes two rooms, connecting rooms if available. Remember if you have two separate rooms, you would have two bathrooms for use which you would appreciate when you are rushing for time.
Also, there is a small wardrobe area in the suite where you can store your suitcases as well.
My family of 4 (15yo boy and 12yo girl) stayed in a family suite last August and we were fine with the space.
My husband and I stayed in the bedroom with a queen size bed. My 15yo son slept in the sofa bed. My 12yo daughter slept on the extra bed they provided for free(we booked directly with YMCA) in the area where the mini ref and desk are. She loved that she had her own space and her bed was against the window so she had a view the whole time.
Hope this helps.
