Family of 5 (3 under 7yrs) - 2 Weeks

Hi, Looking to take advantage of our recent move to KL to take a long desired 2 week trip to China (our first) since we are much closer now than from Washington DC. Thought is one week in Beijing then unsure on second week. We have 3 girls under the age of 7 but they are fairly good travelers as they have had a good deal of experiences already.

We normally do beach family vacations but obviously this time looking to take advantage of our new AP home base, we want this to be more of a cultural experience for the family then anything else. Besides Beijing and the Great Wall we heard about an area that has magnificent European like castles in the mountains somewhere but don%26#39;t remember the name of area or what else is there. We are also considering Shanghai or Hong Kong for the week but very open suggestions there.

Any must see / do young family activities or places to visit in these areas that would help us decide on week 2 destination(s)? Any major miss thinking at this early point? Best time of year for a trip like this? Thanks, Kevin

When would you be travelling?

I think I would possibly do Beijing for 5 days.

European-like CASTLES? I know there%26#39;re many destinations in China which boast colonial architecture, but not castles! Mansions and etc would probably be closer to the truth. Some notable examples are Shanghai, Tianjin, Dalian, Qingdao, Harbin, Xiamen and Guangzhou.

What are you and your family more interested in seeing/doing/experiencing?

What are your flight options like? Flying in and out of the same city (which one?) or open-jaw?
