Starting in Bejing

That is about all I know to say to start with! I will be meeting my husband who is station in Baghdad in Bejing we were planning on going the end of April and staying through the middle of May (aprox 20 days). After reading the posts about the first week of May being aq holiday it seems we might have to change the dates. We are flixable somewhat.

We found people to be great help on here about places to stay and internet sites which was a last minute hotel booking site for Thailand which worked out great and we are looking for a site like that as well.

What we are needing are the must sees even in the outer towns or even if it is a short flight away. We enjoy doing everything from the tourist type things to going to the outlying villages and seeing the culture there.

Please if you would please give any great websites, hints must sees, areas of town to stay any type of hint of anything would be great to make this a memorable trip for us!

We found Trip advisor to be a life saver last year when we did the same thing but met in Thailand.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

You can spend a few days. China is way bigger than Thailand, and you can%26#39;t go to all of the good places in 20 days, so it would help to have some idea what you are interested in.

In general, though, you can go west or south after spending about 5 days in Beijing

West--stop in Datong (Buddhist caves), maybe see the old town of Pingyao, then Xi%26#39;an and go south from there to Chengdu and Lijiang and Kunming if there is still time.

South--go to Shanghai visit Hangzhou, Nanjing and a scenic village on a canal, then head down to the Guilin/Yangshuo area for the scenery and then to Kunming and Lijiang if time allows.

Those are rather different trips, and one is not clearly better than the other.

First off, come anytime after the 2nd week of May.

What%26#39;s your budget like? Do you have to fly out of Beijing as well? I presume you%26#39;re on your 1st trip to China with zilch knowledge of Chinese, do specify if otherwise.

Why do you say go anytime AFTER the 2nd week in May? We just made travel arrangements from May 8-15.

Oops, I think I meant to type after 1st week, not 2nd week. Sorry there. Your dates should be fine.
