South Cathedral-Beijing

hi,

i bought a very good travel guide about China, and I find in Beijing ';South Cathedral'; - ';it is a Catolic Church'; - now, i`m interesting - is this a State Catolic Church or Roman Catolic? ( there is a difernce!!!) I`m trying to find Roman-Catolic church!!! Thank you!

All of the obvious catholic churches you will find in China are under the Chinese government, not the Vatican, including South Cathedral. There are underground churches under the Vatican, but they are underground, so you won%26#39;t find them in guidebooks!

In my experience, I would say that the members and priests in the Chinese Catholic church do consider themselves to be Roman Catholic and under the Vatican, despite the lack of an official, formal relationship.

It%26#39;s not so simple to define this relationship, as the Vatican has also recognized the ordination of some of the bishops of the Chinese church.

Thank you - you`ve been very helpful!
