Shop with the local

Where are all the local food markets that the local chinese go?

%26amp; what about the night markets?Where do the local do their shopping;surely they dont go to Wangfujing or the silk market etc?

Shop with the local

Eh, what makes you think that we all shop only at night markets?!

There%26#39;s a night food market at Wangfujing. Another good place to shop would be Xidan for clothes and such.

Shop with the local

There are lots of local food market for local, along hutong or a small communite ,there will have one market, however local food you can have a look:ghost street,di %26#39;an men

Local also go to silk market, however with lots of bargain

other shopping:Xi%26#39;dan, Tianyi (whole sale of small gifts and everyday products\),Wantong

Dear Ellyse

I hope you are not offended regarding ';night market';;its just that I know the Chinese are very clever people %26amp; they like bargains! so they would not pay silly prices for goods that are a lot cheaper far away from the tourist places!

Dear Chineseqing

Thanks for your info;could you further inform me how to get to these places(Xidan/Tianyi)?

Actually, in many cities like Shanghai, Giffen goods are getting more and more popular. It%26#39;s fashionable to show that you can actually earn enough to buy luxury goods, instead of having to go for the cheap knock-off stuff. Just depends on who you%26#39;re talking to.

And yes in Shanghai the locals also do go to Qipu Lu, Nanjing Lu etc just like the non-locals do.

Oh and for Xidan there%26#39;s a metro stop, but I no longer remember exact directions, sorry. It%26#39;s been some time since I%26#39;ve been there.

';Fools %26amp; their money always parted';In the west we have the same problem regarding showing off;but most of the time its the poor that trying to look rich wearing designer cloths that they can%26#39;t afford(stupid with money)%26amp; the rich walking about in t -shirt %26amp; jean because they have nothing to prove!(clever with money)
