Aberdeen... 40 years ago, yes. Now, nothing village about it. Tai-O, yes.

Sheung-Wan, Hollywood Rd area would still have a lot of pre-war buildings around.

Must shop at the Wonderful Worlds of Whompa it is in the Whampo area of Kowloon and is fairly new. The prices are much less then in other areas at the same stores. We found the Esprit sales to be better then anywhere else. Great variety of shops fromn a huge grocery store (a must visit) to designer fashion and furniture stores. I would visit the Knutsford terrace area in Kowloon for great food and nightlife everything we tried there was great and we had alot of fun at the bars.

Hello,

Food:

I think you should try some of HK%26#39;s street foods. You can find them easily in Mongkok. The foods I recommend are : curry fish balls, fish meat ';siu mai';, 闆炶泲浠? ie. egg pancakes, looks like little ping pong balls joined together, be sure to eat it when hot).

go to http://www.tcstreet.com/Book/daily/50/50a.htm to view the photos of 50 popular HK street foods even if you can%26#39;t read Chinese. Click the link at the bottom right hand corner of the page to go to the next page.

You may find the foods not very hygienic at the stalls, the foods are usually kept exposed close to busy streets. The egg pancakes should be ok as they are freshly made and should be fully cooked. For curry fish balls and fish meat ';siu mai';, you can buy them at some 7-11 convenient stores (look more hygienic). Remember to add soy sauce and chilly oil to the fish meat ';siu mai';.

HK style milk tea is also worth trying. You can fine them at the HK style ';tea restaurants'; .

Photography:

Do not miss the Victoria Harbour night view. You can take photos from Tsim Sha Tsui, near the Star Ferry, and at the Avenue of the Stars, or you can go up the carpark at Ocean Terminal, this is a popular place for photo fans.

At 8 pm every night, there are laser shows, with colour lights radiating from the top of the buildings. Check with the HK Tourism Board.

You will not see the fireworks. We usually have fireworks displays on the second day of the Chinese New Year (ie last Sunday) and on Chinese National Day (1st October).

Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan, Chi Lin Nunnery can be interesting places to shoot.

Tai O is worth visiting (highly recommended). It is a fishing village. You can find some houses built on water there. A very interesting place to take photos (I went there 3 times last year). You can try some traditional snacks there eg, ';tea dumplings'; (little sweet dumplings wrapped with leaves), bean curd dessert (';bean curd flower'; if translated directly), grilled octopus, some herbal drinks sold by the elderly villagers. (Not sure whether the villagers do business on weekdays or not). Don%26#39;t stay only in the main street, you will see more if you walk into the area where the villagers live, ( you may loose you way). Tai O is also one of the places for HK photo fans to shoot sunset photos. You can skip the dolphins boat trip.

Unfortunately, the air quality in HK is very bad in recent years. The sky is hazy, dull and boring most of the days. Clear days with good visibility are RARE !

If you have time, Macau is worth visiting as well.

Hi photowinnie!

Thanks for taking time for the advice. Tai-O i will surely tey to see if i have a chance. I be going to Macau on a day trip though...totally skipping ShenZhen.

As for food, actually I was looking at any POPULAR places that serves dim sum, roast goose and sea food? Streetfood i would certainly try without doubt. I have a strong stomach btw.! Is cheese lobster noodles popular? I remembered I had great dish there 8yrs back.

Hmmm wanted to go to Espirit factory outlets as its much cheaper than over here. Is the one near Penisular Hotel still ard??

Oooo...cant wait for next week!!!

These are the places I go for:

dimsum: Victoria City Restaurant (Admiralty / Repulse Bay)

roast goose: Yung Kee Restaurant (Central)

seafood: Rainbow Restaurant (Lamma Island, with pick up service at Central)

They are all popular places. You may give them a try!

For shoping i would recommend stanley market as this is a must for me.

I would also suggest the Peak

LKF is also anice place for drinks and dinner

For factory outlets try design planning.......the lady susan is a very helpful person

Sorry but i have to disagree Stanley Market is over priced tourist stuff as is what I saw at the peak. I would skip that and hit the residential areas of HK where the local people shop like Whompa and other areas. I found prices better and the quality of the items far superior.
