How complicated/long winded is the process for getting a visa from the Chinese Embassy? Apparently have to go in person to drop off appropriate forms (downloaded from internet) and collect 3 days later - is it a chaotic process? Mega queues etc?
Do all applicants have to %26#39;present%26#39; themselves there or can 1 person drop off and collect the necessary documents?

You will need a passport photo as well. You need to go to the embassy in person, but only one need to go. If you arrive there before 8:30, you will be ok. They do not open in the afternoon. So get there early. They check it and you can collect it 3 days later with the payment.
It is not that bad.

In fact any individual (not necessarily an applicant) can drop offt for you... hence the visa agencies.
